REMINDER FROM GIOIA:
City Councilmember Eric Gioia (D–Long Island City) recently distributed flyers to his constituents in Woodside and Sunnyside reminding them to register for the STAR property tax rebate.
The reminder applies to every homeowner in Queens and throughout the city, whether a senior or not.
Gioia pointed out that the New York City property tax rebate is $400, while the state rebate offered through the STAR program ranges from $180 to $350.
“Property owners over age 65 with household incomes less than $64,500 are eligible for $350 of STAR relief while all other homeowners qualify for $180,” Gioia explained.
All property owners who live in and use their property in New York City as their primary residence are eligible for the rebate and STAR program, he added.
“All you have to do is call 311 and find out if you’re registered,” Gioia said. “If you’re not, request an application and register by October 15. It’s your money. All you’ve got to do is apply.”
