In a few weeks, Flushing Meadows Phil, the Queens Wildlife Center’s own prognosticator of local climatological conditions, will be asked to predict whether the area will be assailed by six more weeks of winter or enjoy an early spring. Judging by the weather of the past two weeks, we expect Phil’s forecast for the meteorological state of the burrow, which hinges on whether or not Phil, a prairie dog, sees his shadow when he emerges from his burrow at the zoo on February 1, will be for another six weeks of winter.
