King China Buffet Has Something For Everyone

King China Buffet, located in the La Guardia Shopping Center, can satisfy every preference. A buffet offering dozens upon dozens of delicious Chinese and International foods ensures that everyone in the family will find their favorites.

The buffet holds more than 150 selections, ranging from hot and cold appetizers to main courses, side dishes and desserts. For the low price of $5.95 for lunch and $10.95 for dinner on weekdays, this "all you can eat" buffet is a great deal for everyone, including families, since children’s dinners cost only $6.95 on weekdays. Saturday prices are just $1 higher and Sundays feature a special food festival for just $12.95.

Watch as fresh sushi is made or sample the fresh-from-the-ocean raw bar that features boiled shrimp and fresh oysters and clams on the half shell. Crack open steamed Alaskan king crab legs. The sweet, delectable crab meat inside is served with melted butter and lemon and well worth the minimal effort.

If you’d like to start with hot appetizers, try the steamed or fried dumplings with dipping sauce or a bowl of won ton, egg drop or hot and sour soup. The barbecued spare ribs are meaty and delicious and you can have as many as you like. There are crispy spring rolls and beef teriyaki sticks to munch on before you hit the main courses.

Entrees include fish, shrimp and lobster, beef, chicken and pork dishes. Check out the Mongolian barbecue station, where you select your own raw meats, vegetables, noodles and aromatic sauces. The experienced chef cooks them right in front of you on a large, round grill, using a wooden stick to quickly stir all the ingredients together. The result is a custom made dinner entrée that you can accompany with any of the vegetable or rice dishes from the buffet, such as fried rice with roast pork or tiny glass noodles with vegetables.

There’s always something new cooking at King China Buffet. Among the latest offerings is Peking duck wrapped in a steamed pancake with sweet scallions, to be found near the Mongolian barbecue. One helping is so delicious you’ll be back for more.

A variety of fresh, healthy vegetables including Chinese bok choy, green beans and spinach will entice even the kids. Fresh flounder, roasted chicken and corn on the cob will satisfy palates accustomed to more American style cuisine. Finicky kids will love to help themselves to chicken nuggets, barbecued wings, sweet and sour chicken, fried shrimp and crispy egg rolls. There are sides of French fries and onion rings for the taking.

Just wait till you see the eye-dazzling dessert bar. From healthy choices such as fresh fruit to bananas foster, a variety of creamy puddings, Jell-O and an assortment of cakes, cookies and pastries, there’s something to satisfy every sweet tooth. Kids big and small will particularly enjoy a soft ice cream machine where they can make their own sundaes.

Those who prefer can forego the buffet and order at their table, where they can choose from King China’s extensive menu selections as they would in a regular restaurant. This is helpful for seniors who may not want to walk around while holding a plate. All tables are quickly cleared by the friendly wait staff. Wine and beer are also available to complement your meal for a nominal charge.

King China Buffet’s manager, the amiable Kevin Chen, pointed me to a beautifully appointed private room that can accommodate as many as 200 people. Any large affair is sure to be a success with a great selection of Chinese, Japanese and American favorites with entertainment provided by a built-in karaoke station. There’s plenty of room for a disk jockey and dancing in this clean, carpeted banquet room, an ideal spot for a business luncheon or dinner.

King China Buffet is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., 11 p.m. on weekends. Credit cards are accepted and take out service is available. There’s also free parking just outside in the new LaGuardia Center shopping mall. Remember, the private room is perfect for parties and business luncheons or dinners. The extensive selection of fine food at King China Buffet has something to please everyone.
