Set Graffiti Clean Up Day
Assemblymember Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria) in partnership with the 114th Precinct is sponsoring Astoria Graffiti Clean Up Day on June 8. Other organizations will be joining Gianaris in co-sponsoring this community event, including the United Community Civic Association and Elpides.
"I hope this event will give a jump start to the anti-graffiti movement in Astoria," said Gianaris. "We must set an example to graffiti vandals of zero tolerance for the destruction of other people’s property."
Gianaris is seeking volunteers for the cleanup effort. In addition to those who will actually help paint over the graffiti, the office needs donations of equipment including paint, brushes, rollers, gloves, and masks. Businesses with graffiti on their property that wish to participate should also contact the office. Children from the community are especially encouraged to get involved in this community event.
"It is important that we all work together to improve our community and teach the next generation to respect the property of their neighbors," said Gianaris.
