Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, surrounded by members of his staff and the New York Police Department, announce the arrest and indictment of 10 alleged pimps accused of running a Long Island City prostitution enterprise, Operation Plaza Boys. On October 25, 20 prostitutes were swept up in a raid of the area and a $2.2 million civil forfeiture action was filed. Three of the defendants face enterprise corruption charges for which they can be sentenced up to 25 years in prison if convicted. Operation Plaza Boys is a new and aggressive approach to the continuing effort in cleaning up street prostitution.
