Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, surrounded by members of his staff and the New York Police Department, announce the arrest and indictment of 10 alleged pimps accused of running a Long Island City prostitution enterprise, Operation Plaza Boys. On October 25, 20 prostitutes were swept up in a raid of the area and a $2.2 million civil forfeiture action was filed. Three of the defendants face enterprise corruption charges for which they can be sentenced up to 25 years in prison if convicted. Operation Plaza Boys is a new and aggressive approach to the continuing effort in cleaning up street prostitution. More...

Shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, two months and one day after terrorist attacks leveled the World Trade Center Towers, American Airlines Flight 587 took off from John F. Kennedy International airport, bound for the Dominican Republic. The plane never made it.
