Garden Seeks Vols
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is currently seeking volunteers, age 55 and over, who have a thing for flowers. Volunteers are needed to maintain the garden and greenhouse, create crafts using dried flowers and help in the plant shop as volunteer Barbara Friedman is shown doing, as well as assist with clerical duties. Anyone interested in volunteering at the Queens Botanical Gardens, or for other exciting volunteer opportunities in Queens, call Veronica Levy at (212) 614-5557. Established 35 years ago, the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program now numbers 9,000 volunteers who contribute more than two million hours of service annually to 600 organizations in New York City. RSVP is part of the Community Service Society of New York, a nonprofit organization that advocates on behalf of the poor in the areas of education, affordable housing, health care and income maintenance. RSVP receives funding from CSS, the Corporation for National Service, other government agencies, foundations, individuals and the Friends of RSVP, Inc.
