Queens Borough President Claire Shulman and Councilmember Helen Marshall received "Women of Distinction" awards last Thursday at Queensborough Community College as part of a Women’s History Month observance. (At microphone) Shulman’s award, accepted by Melinda Katz, Queens Community Boards Coordinator, was conferred for her exemplary record as a government leader and for being the first woman to hold the office of Queens Borough President, according to a QCS spokeswoman. Marshall (at rear), the spokeswoman said, was cited for her record of excellence in public service, including her near-decade of service as an Assemblymember, for her long community involvement and for her efforts to advance public higher education as chair of the Council committee on higher education.
