City Council Speaker Peter F. Vallone (next to Mary Tyler Moore) and Health Committee Chair Victor Robles (to Vallone’s r.) were on hand last week to unveil the Center for Animal Care and Control’s new dual purpose van. When not being used for medical purposes, the van will be used as a site where pet owners can come to adopt dogs and cats. They were joined by (to Moore’s l.) Councilmember Kathryn Freed, Parks Commissioner Henry Stern and Mrs. Tena Vallone, the Speaker’s wife. The City Council, which funded the van, recently passed an animal population control bill requiring a full service animal shelter in each borough and the spay/neutering of animals adopted from shelters or purchased in pet stores.
