Ravenswood Center Celebrates 40th


The Hanac Ravenswood Senior Center recently celebrated its 40th anniversary at Riccardo’s. Attendees were (l. to r.) Bessie Williams, Cheryl Lamm, Frances Fitzpatrick, Andrea X., Cadiz, Ann Albert, John Kaiteris, Bea Slusky, Angie Douris and Millie Niosi. The facility started in 1956 at the Community Center and was called the Adult Citizen Center. In 1963 the center was moved to a new location and named the Ravenswood Senior Center and in 1992 the center was named Hanac Ravenswood Senior Center funded by the Department for the Aging. With the help of City Councilmember Walter McCaffrey, the center has become one of the finest in Queens. McCaffrey (r. with Edwin Cadiz, center director) was honored for his support of new renovations to better serve the seniors in Long Island City.
