Whitestone Zip Code 11357 Community Board 7 Francis Lewis, a signer of the Declaration of Independence was a resident of this area settled before the Revolutionary War. It is said to be named for a large white rock that was located near the shore. For a time the area called itself Clintonville, after Dewitt Clinton, of Maspeth, who was governor of New York State. It reverted to the original name when a post office was established for the area in 1854. |
