Jackson Avenue Steakhouse Has The Steak And The Sizzle
Jackson Avenue Steakhouse has been serving consistently delicious steaks, chops, poultry and fish for the past nine years, and continuous commitment to quality makes it a popular place. Owner Mitch Catanzano is meticulous about consistency and quality and it shows in everything from the expert service to the quality of the food to the comfort of the warm and cozy dining room.
You’ll be warmly greeted by the staff at Jackson Avenue Steakhouse as soon as you enter. Friendly patrons seated at the bar were enjoying their favorite cocktails and wine and engaging in conversation as we entered and were escorted past the fireplace and took our seats in the dining room. Wines come from around the world and are reasonably priced. Our waitress uncorked a fine bottle of Argentine cabernet for us.
The well-trained chef has created some new, exciting items for the menu. Start with one of the tempting appetizers, such as grilled Portobello mushroom on a bed of fresh arugula and goat cheese, dressed in walnut vinaigrette. Sesame crusted shrimp salad of crisp jumbo shrimp over baby spinach and adorned with soy vinaigrette is another new addition. Giant shrimp cocktail must be seen to be believed. The shrimp are so big, you’ll need a fork and knife to eat them. Chicken quesadilla rolls will please anyone at the table, even kids. Jackson Avenue is famous for their barbecued ribs that simply fall off the bone. You can order an appetizer-sized portion or a full entrée. On the evening we visited, the chef had prepared an Asian style sauce for these melt-in-your-mouth ribs that was simply divine.
Jackson Avenue Steakhouse serves generous portions of quality meat at very reasonable prices, especially when you consider that the entrees are served with choice of potato and vegetable. This is a great place for families, friends and business associates to gather for lunch or dinner. The Jackson signature rib eye steak is 24 ounces of the most tender rib eye I’ve eaten. With potatoes and vegetables it’s just $29. A new item, 12-ounce filet mignon served with mushrooms and Madeira wine reduction makes any night special. Another star at Jackson Avenue is the 28-ounce, dry aged Porterhouse steak that cuts like butter and is cooked to your liking.
Their side dishes are of equally high quality and include Red Bliss mashed potatoes, home fries or seasoned rice, mushrooms sautéed in a wine sauce and fabulous creamed spinach. Even the sautéed broccoli with olive oil and lots of healthful garlic was outstanding. On weekends, the Jackson Avenue Steakhouse roasts delicious prime rib of beef in portions sized for a king or queen.
Yet another new item on the menu is New Zealand rack of lamb—eight delicate chops cooked to perfection. Juicy herb-roasted chicken is also on the menu, as well as their legendary slow-roasted duck served with orange sauce. Barbecued chicken can be ordered on its own, or paired up with those famous baby back ribs. Daily fish specials, such as walnut crusted Chilean sea bass, are described by the attentive staff. Classic sautéed shrimp scampi is always on the menu. A number of pasta dishes such as the special rigatoni with grilled chicken, broccoli, roasted red peppers and smoked mozzarella ($11) are available.
The Jackson Avenue Steakhouse is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday from noon and Sunday from 3 to 10 p.m., with consistently great steaks, seafood, pasta, salads and sandwiches featured. At lunchtime, try their steak tidbits sandwich on toasted garlic bread or the Thanksgiving sandwich filled with turkey and all the trimmings. A junior sirloin steak is also available. At both lunchtime and dinnertime, the desserts are extraordinary. Boston chocolate cheese cake, raspberry almond cake, chocolate mousse cake or carrot cake will help to complete a memorable meal.
A private room that accommodates up to 100 people is ideal for any family function, business meeting or graduation party.
