MARY CALIFANO “Thanks, once a week would have been dreadful. Two times a week is a slight improvement but I’m troubled by people walking by and carelessly throwing cans, bottles and food wrappers on sidewalks and streets in front of our houses. Let’s all pitch in to have a cleaner city.”

By Rev. Austin H. Armitstead

"What is your reaction to retaining the two-day-a-week garbage pickups in Queens?"

"

"

EILLEEN RYAN “We are all in favor of improving the quality of life in our city. The Mayor’s decision to rehire nearly 200 sanitation workers who were laid off weeks ago is a help to all of us. Let’s all do our part to have a cleaner city.”

SARA PORCHETTI “I am happy to have garbage collection twice a week because I hate to see a messy neighborhood. We want to take pride in where we live, work and worship.”
DAVE KEMMY “I look around our communities and I am heartened by the news that the city will have twice a week garbage pick-ups rather than once a week as was previously announced. During the hot weather months it could have caused health problems for us.”

GEORGE MURPHY “Queens and the whole city would have suffered if the original city plan announced recently had not changed to twice a week collections. We need to share together in helping face what we have to do in difficult times.
GEORGE KELLY “We love to live in Queens, but like other parts of the City, we face all kinds of complications. Even this matter of collecting garbage was a worry to residents, but at least the Mayor and the Dept. of Sanitation agreed to a slight change by rehiring some workers who were laid off so that they will provide twice a week collection of garbage.”
