Members of the St. John’s Prep Class of 1950 led the alumni in a rousing rendition of the school songand student ambassadors enjoyed hearing alumni tales about life at St. John’s Prep “back in the good old days.”

Members of the St. John’s Prep, Lewis Avenue in Brooklyn, classes of 1929 to 1972, including 50 members of the graduating classes of 1949 and 1950, gathered at St. John’s Prep in Astoria on Nov. 18th to celebrate and reminisce about the formative years of their lives.

The evening began with an alumni mass in the school chapel at which Reverend Walter Graham, C.M. ‘60 was the main celebrant. Concelebrants were Monsignor James Asip, ‘29, Reverend Henry Bradbury, C.M., Reverend Thomas Concagh, C.M., Reverend Andrew Drew, Reverend John Freund, C.M. ‘55, Reverend Thomas Mallaghan, Reverend Paul Murphy, C.M., reverend Francis Prior, C.M., Reverend Eugene Sheridan, C.M., and Reverend James A. D. Smith.

Following mass, the alumni gathered for dinner and to continue the celebration of their shared past. William Higgins, principal of St. John’s Prep, welcomed those gathered and introduced members of the class of ‘50 who led the alumni in a rousing rendition of the St. John’s Prep school song.

Tom Brett, a member of the class of 1950, who was instrumental in locating classmates and encouraging their attendance at the reunion pointed out the similarities and differences between St. John’s Prep, Lewis Avenue and St. John’s Prep, Crescent Street. He remembered "Our pep rallies took place in a much smaller gym, but our school spirit was as strong as the Prep spirit evident here."
