Deplore Gore Tax
To The Editor:

I am disgusted with this selfish politician Al Gore and his arrogant quest for the White House. He does not deserve that position. He is a corrupt liar and tax monger. He never keeps his promises. He piled up on us taxpayers an unconstitutional telephone Gore Tax and a gasoline Gore Tax that has to be terminated immediately. We hard working taxpayers are overtaxed by these corrupted Democrats and can hardly make ends meet. I was glad they lost the election. He has been fed by the public for two decades. Enough is enough! Let him get a real job now and pay taxes too.

Stop Underage Drinking

To The Editor:

The approaching holiday season will be marked by happy moments with family and friends, gift-giving and holiday parties where adults celebrate the season. It is important to remember that holiday entertaining is serious business. Anyone hosting or attending a holiday party should not only consider the guests, but friends and neighbors with whom we all share the road.

The fact is that responsible drinking and safe driving during the holidays is everyone’s responsibility. So if you plan to host a holiday party in the weeks ahead, clip the following list of responsible party tips and post it on the refrigerator as a reminder:

•Ask guests who among them will volunteer to be designated drivers.

•Always serve food with alcoholic beverages. High-protein foods like cheese and meat help moderate the effects of alcohol.

•Don’t force drinks on your guests.

•Make non-alcoholic beverages available to your guests.

•Close the bar an hour before the party ends so your guests have a non-drinking period before driving home.

•If despite your best efforts someone has had too much to drink, arrange transportation home with another guest, drive the person yourself, call a cab or ask your guest to spend the night. Do not let that person drive.

All of us can do our part to make the holiday season enjoyable and safe this year. Make designated drivers part of your holiday planning.

A Compromise President?

To The Editor:

The upshot to this highly confusing election drama may be different than anyone could possibly predict. One possibility is that there could be two competing slates of Florida electors appointed. If there is no winner by Jan. 20th, (House) speaker Dennis Hastert and 97-year old Sen. Strom Thurmond are among those who could be acting president. But there is yet another possibility.

Many scholars believe that the constitution allows the House to elect anyone Speaker in anticipation of a vacant White House—even a non-member. Perhaps the compromise solution to this mess would be as follows: neither Bush nor Gore would be the next president. Instead, Hastert would resign, and Congress would replace him with Alan Greenspan. Then Greenspan would become the next president. (And would it be possible to squeeze Jesse Ventura in as vice president?)

Alan Greenspan is a moderate Republican who has earned the respect of both parties. As America’s most distinguished economic theorist, he would be the perfect compromise candidate to declare closure to this ludicrous state of affairs.
